Bill Wedlake brings a wealth of experience in a variety of fields to his motivational talks. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, he has been an active member of the Winnipeg community for over 40 years. Some of his career highlights include...

  • Coached basketball at the high school & university level for 32 years
  • Taught at St. John’s High School for 16 years
  • Taught at the University of Winnipeg for 16 years
  • Athletic Director at the University of Winnipeg for 8 years
  • Received the Clarence Atchison Award from the University of Winnipeg for excellence in community service (2001)
  • Worked as a sports color commentator for CJOB radio and Global TV
  • Served as Vice President, Volunteers, Western Canada Summer Games (1990) responsible for 9000+ volunteers. 
  • Served as Vice Chair Volunteers, Pan American Games (1999) responsible for 19,000+ volunteers. 
  • Served as Venue Chair, North American Indigenous Games (2002)
  • Created & produced own weekly TV show for 11 years on Local access television. 
  • Worked as Assistant coach of Canada’s National Basketball team alongside legendary coach Jack Donahue
  • Served as Presidents of Basketball ManitobaManitoba High Schools Athletic Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches of Canada
  • Recipient of the Mike Spack Award in 1994 by the Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association recognizing a lifetime of achievement in the sport.
  • Served as National Basketball Commissioner with the Canadian School Sport Association
  • Co-founder of the Wiinipeg Invitational Tournament (WIT) high school basketball tournament in 1976. 
  • Authored 3 books – Organizing a Successful Basketball Program and Coaching Aids in a Successful Basketball Program, Volumes 1 & 2
  • Produced, directed and starred in 3 basketball instructional videos (Tips on Technique Volumes 1, 2 & 3)
  • Inducted as Builder into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005. 
  • Awarded the 'Dallas Beck Good Guy Award' in January 2009 by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
  • Honoured by the naming of the new fitness centre at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre (Bill Wedlake Fitness Centre). 
  • Currently the Executive Director of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference.
